There is no clear-cut length for how long an Adirondack chairs last; there are many factors that determine their lifespan. Mass produced chairs made with inexpensive woods will likely not make it through two seasons. On the other hand, handcrafted chairs made with the finest woods can easily be passed down through generations. Other factors include the environment and the weather in which the chairs spend most of their time, and how often you use them. On average, a decently constructed chair with a strong wood will last ten years at least.

When it comes to the choice of wood some are better than others for outdoor chairs. Solid teak is one of the best materials for this type of chair.
We attached the arm brackets first. The top, or wide part of the bracket, is positioned flush with the top of the leg and centered on the leg’s width. Clamp each one in place then drill and countersink for the upper screw in each bracket. Repeat for the lower screw but use a shorter, 11⁄4” screw.

We just moved in to our house and I have 4 Adirondack chairs in need of a refinish. The thing is, we have a lovely red brick patio outside and I can’t figure out what color to paint them! I love tropical color schemes, but this is probably not the place. Anyone have opinions?
