Firstly, we counted 21 colors of this chair so you definitely have options other than the coastal gray pictured above. This is a poly lumber Adirondack which the manufacturer states is made out of 95 percent recycled materials.
I think Adirondack chairs are for a very specific purpose, usually sitting on a mountain top or beach to face the view or around a fire pit giving people the ability to lounge and be comfortable. They are not for everyone! But they sure do make them bullet proof these days and with a 40 year GTD (like mine) you want to make sure you choose the right colour! Thanks for your comment, Maria
Main reason why Adirondack chairs are so expensive is because most of these chairs are made up of more expensive and/or rare woods, such as teak and cedar. Teak, which is considered the best material for outdoor furniture, is resistant to decay, insects, rot, and in general can weather the elements.
Just bought four of these type of chair after doing a couple months of research into them (after seeing one for very cheap at Costco). Bought during the Memorial Day sale, buy 3 get one free, with free shipping. That sale seems to be over, but they still have a "special". They're not cheap, but are very comfortable, we like that the version we bought fold up nicely, and they have a relatively very long 20 yr residential warranty. We're expecting them to last for years.
Teak: Teak is one of the most durable hardwoods on the market. A special oil found in the heartwood gives it the strength and durability to last a good 60 to 70 years. Even in weather conditions that swing from hot to cold and wet to dry, teak won’t split, rot, or crack. You will need to apply a sealant each year, but that’s it for upkeep. This popular wood comes at a high price, but you can leave it outside for years, and it will still provide a beautiful, relaxing surface on which to sit.
If you have a fire pit in your outdoor space, the Adirondack chair will also be a good complement. The list above is based on different styles and types of Adirondack chairs and not base on importance. With that, you should be able to select anyone from the proposed list as a great add-on to your patio.

This is a must-buy if you want an Adirondack chair with both quality and style. I just love how the wood planks used in the backrest part are curved, thus forming a throne-like appearance. The slight curve of the backrest is a good idea to accommodate the natural slight curve of the seater’s back Has very durable construction Made from high-quality acacia wood but a teak finish Weather resistant This is priced a bit lower than others Product warranty is a bit shorter than what most Adirondack chair manufacturers offer. This has only 6 months warranty.
Luckily, that isn’t an issue with the Highwood Hamilton Chair. This model is produced using great reused plastics, ensuring that it endures quite a long time after year with no maintenance or upkeep.
