The boards are unfinished and I noted several places with putty patches. This was not an issue for me because I painted mine. If you plan to stain them it may be a problem because my putty marks were right on the arm rest. I did not have any cracked or weak board. Some of the pieces were a little rough but I sanded them down a bit and they were fine.
